Fundraising

The Sun Peaks Education Society has worked tirelessly since 2010 to establish community schooling for our rising demographic of children at Sun Peaks.

The Society targeted and met each of its increasing fundraising goals over the years, fully meeting the necessary expenditures for the educational facilitators, insurance, internet and other administrative costs. Senator Nancy Greene Raine is the SPES’s honorary Chairperson and the SPES is supported by the major businesses in Sun Peaks. Additionally, Mayor Al Raine has been an invaluable partner in fundraising and advocating for the Sun Peaks Secondary Academy (SPSA).

With the Kamloops-Thompson School District’s decision in August 2012 to take the elementary students under its wing, the Sun Peaks Education Society now focuses its fundraising solely on the Grade 10 through 12 students who make up the blended learning model Sun Peaks Secondary Academy.

With this learning model still under the administration of the SPES, it is imperative that the Society continues to raise the needed funds to finance the operational, staffing and insurance expenses of this school.

The positive output of the Society has been received well with tremendous personal and financial input from community and business members. We appreciate the support that has been forthcoming, and we hope we can count on both returning and new patrons to see that the SPSA, and community education at Sun Peaks, not only continues, but thrives.

SPES is a registered official charity. We are accepting corporate contributions, and are able to issue income tax receipts for donations. Sun Peaks supported us generously since our inception and we trust that we can count on your support this year.

Volunteers

The Society depends on funds raised at community led fundraisers.  Many volunteers are needed to ensure events like the TELUS Nancy Greene Alpine Classic, the Big Little Golf Tournament and 3 Mountain Tour are a success.

The TELUS Nancy Greene Alpine Classic is a key fundraiser for the SPSA. A portions of funds raised from this event go towards operating costs, staff salaries, insurance, internet and enrichment activities for students. Funds exceeding $30,000 are invested into a fund to enhance the future K-12 school with community space.  The TNGAC takes place on the last weekend in January 2024.

  1. The TNGAC Organizing Committee - this core team meets monthly, Aug - Dec and weekly in January leading up to the event.  We are looking to fill roles for social media, on-hill set up lead, Friday Volunteer Social lead and other roles.  Email sunpeaksalpineclassic@gmail.com to get involved.

  2. Event Day/Weekend Volunteers - To receive notices regarding volunteers opportunities for the TNGAC email sunpeaksalpineclassic@gmail.com

The Big Little Golf Tournament supports both the PAC and SPES.  Individuals are needed to build an organizing committee for this events.  Parents and community members are encouraged to get involved.

New Ideas for fundraising are always welcome and are needed to meet our fundraising needs!
